AS IS | Antonio Barahona

Artist

From Seville, Spain

Based in Seville, Spain

"I have always been influenced by the relationship established between the human being

and nature. Sometimes it is submissive and other times in an aggressive way, I find it

very interesting.."

AR: What brought you into art?

A: I started in art because in my family there are painters and musicians. It is very natural

for me to relate to the world from a sensitive and emotional perspective.

AR: What inspires you the most?

A: I have always been influenced by the relationship established between the human being

and nature. Sometimes it is submissive and other times in an aggressive way, I find it

very interesting. But today I am more influenced by the art of my time, and the response

that I can give to the world of art in a more intelligent and committed way.

AR: Do you have any specific rituals while working(creating)?

A: Since I am a father, my ritual is to take the baby to the nursery school, change my

clothes, have a coffee and listen to a podcast.

AR: What would you recommend to someone new to art (an artist or just an admirer), what to begin with?

A: -

AR: Your top 3 adjectives related to art?

A: Intelligent

affective

effective

AR: The best angle to look at art is from?

A: I would say that the only angle to look at art is through personal experience, your

intelligence and your emotions. The objective is to have enough capacity to understand

the context of a work to be able to abandon yourself to the sensations or dialogue with

the piece in an appropriate way.

AR: The Perfect phrase to start any conversation about art is:.?

A: “You must not know anything about art, but...”

AR: Must-read books to talk about art (or do we even need them)?

A: Of course, there are many essential books on art. But my point is that the books have

been written by people, my advice is to find the smartest people around you and talk to

them, and if they don’t come from art, the better.

AR: What would it be if you could change one thing in the art world?

A: The only thing that would change to improve the art world would be comprehensive

education reform. That would give rise to a more sensitive, educated society, with the

ability to see the world from compassion, beauty and the joy of being alive.

AR: Please, share your favorite quote (not necessarily related to art)

A: “Create like nobody is watching”
